Golden Boy Boxing has announced that Hammerin’ Hank Lundy (25-4-1, 12 KO) will head to Hollywood on July 11 to face Mauricio Herrera (21-5, 7 KO) for an HBO Latino Boxing Main Event at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. It is an important fight for the two well-traveled veterans. The war of words has begun.
Hammer says he is coming to “El Maestro’s” backyard on a seek and destroy mission. Lundy is currently in Vegas banging out 8.5 mile runs and training hard for the upcoming assignment.
Herrera countered by saying “Forget Hank Lundy, everyone is coming to see me!” “It’s going to be a great fight, but I’m taking Lundy to school and putting him into detention for talking to much!”
Outside of the verbal nails spit at each other, both fighters showed a mutual respect for their fellow warrior who took the road less traveled in the industry. Both acknowledged that the other fighter came up the hard way, never rejecting a tough challenge.
Herrera, of Riverside California, will have the home field advantage in this one. He has lost two of this last three though the majority of the boxing world feels that he was shafted by judges in those losses. He is considered a real player in the Jr. Welterweight division.
Lundy, a former starting running back at Bartram High, has won three of his last four though most recently dropping razor-thin decision to Thomas Dulorme.
This bout will be at 140 lbs with the vacancy NABF title on the line. What are your thoughts on how this will all play out?
