Blackberry Enterprise Manager "Last Contact Time" is off

The Blackberry Enterprise Manager has a column in the users section called "Last Contact Time". This section lets you know the last time a users blackberry succesfully contacted the server and sent or received an email. If a blackberry user frantically calls you and says " I am not receiving emails" or "my blackberry isn't synching to my calendar this morning" yet, the Exchange server is up and running other people are receiving emails at their desk, the BES is the first place you want to look.

So say today is 12/28/09 but when you look at the BES console the Last Contact Time says 12/26/09, wtf do you do?

If it is just one user who is off, you could right click that users name and select Resend Service Book and also select Reload User. In the past I have had success with this. But chances are that you will have to reactivate everyone at once but trying this move.

Right Click the My Computer icon on your desktop
Select Manage
Open Services & Applications
Select Services
Look for any Blackberry service with the startup type of Automatic,
Make sure those services are Started. (simply right click on that service and choose start)
Wait a minute or two, check the BES Contact Time. Now it should be up to the minute.

This happened because Blackberry service or two that stopped working on the server for whatever reason. Usually because of an unexpected reboot of the server or a spike in the electric.

Hope this helps

Never sign up for a 2 -year Verizon contract

Take my advice - never and I mean NEVER get sucked in to signing a two year contract for Verizon. I know the discount they dangle in front of your face is pretty good but it is NOT worth it in the long term. As an admin for an organization that plenty of Blackberry users, it is my experience that just about all Blackberry devices start going to crap after one year. This is where Verizon puts their hooks in you. Your phone is dying / not performing like it once did but you still have a year left on your deal.... You can Verizon support to ask for help and no dice. If you have insurance they will issue you a refurbished phone that is usually a piece of crap. After two or three replacements the customer will obviously want something different. This is where Verizon gets you - you are still under contract and have no reason to offer you discounted pricing. They force you to pay just about full price for a new phone.

Learn from my bad experience- if using Verizon, sign up for the one year deal. The Blackberry devices they issue just aren't built to last over the long haul. You will save long term and not be forced into early upgrade fees and extended contracts etc etc etc.
